Shinrin Yoku
Forest bathing

What is Shinrin Yoku - Forest Bathing?

Shinrin Yoku literally means 'to bathe in the forest' - forest bathing. The Japanese practice is a process of relaxation and it is a simple method of being calm and quiet amongst the trees, observing nature around you whilst breathing deeply. When we walk in a forest environment we are 'bathing' in the natural essences the trees have to offer that evokes the natural healing within our bodies.

Shinrin Yoku involves a walk at a normal pace and over several kilometers. During the walk, it is an opportunity for reflection, observation and tuning into our emotions and feelings. It can help both adults and children de-stress and boost health and wellbeing in a natural way.

Shinrin Yoku is now practiced globally as its health benefits have become known and researched. A few hours in a forest, wooded area or even an inner city park can promote the 'Natural Killer Cells' in our body, activating our immune system wellbeing.

The Shinrin Yoku
Workshop

The workshop is an opportunity to explore how the forest can be your healing environment.

The Shinrin Yoku walk will allow you to walk at your own pace and experience the interaction between nature and humans.

What do we see, hear, feel or touch? What do we want to leave behind or invite into our lives? Where does the walk bring us in our emotional journey?

The workshop can be a small focus session or a larger group session. The gentle process is one that you can bring calmness and reflectiveness to our lives.

Understanding the forest bathing process and revisiting it is a wonderful gift for us as we 'interact' with the natural environment.

Workshop walks and coaching

The classic Shinrin Yoku walk

Walking for a few kilometres in a forest, wood or inner city park is a wonderful way to evoke the senses and interact with nature.

A typical Shinrin Yoku walk is a reasonably paced walk, typically over a few hours. It will be an opportunity to make observations about nature: what we hear, see, touch and smell.

Furthermore, it is a 'safe space' to explore our thoughts, feelings and inner wishes. Time for reflection, interaction and finally, gathering together with the Tea Ceremony.

The guided walk is one that with knowledge, you may replicate by yourself or continue as a group session.

The walk starts with an 'overview' of Shinrin Yoku, its health benefits and the objectives of the walk. Attendees will be given information for further investigation and extended areas of forest bathing.

Coaching Shinrin Yoku walks

Walks can be designed for specific coaching sessions using the natural environment and physical activity of walking to embrace the emotional journey. Using the coaching tools, the walk is designed with several breaks to explore a theme, issue or process using the natural backdrop as a reference and reflection point.

The walk will start with an overview of Shinrin Yoku, the objectives of the coaching session and a reflective journal to use on the walk. We conclude with the Tea Ceremony and the opportunity to share our thoughts.

Coaching sessions are original and thought provoking, using the reflective phototherapy cards for visual stimulation.

Small group and individual walks available.
