Colour my emotion.....

It's the Platinum Jubilee in the UK and what a joy to see so much purple, everywhere. Yes it is my favourite colour. A colour that makes me feel happy and at ‘peace’. Do we gravitate to certain colours? Or do colours ‘become us’ because people say the colour suits us?

Are colours and emotions connected? I believe so. We often wear a colour that reflects how we feel, in harmony with the season or our interests. There has been a lot of research about colour, mood or emotions and the power each colour has.

As we develop an understanding about the impact of colour, you will recognise that the world of colours around us is no accident. We just have to look at nature.

Calming colours in hospitals, dentists or medical centres. 'Motivational' colours in sports centres, bright images in early years, pastel tones for relaxation. Mixing and matching colours has become a 'science'.

As I looked deeper into colours, I began to appreciate the complexity of colour comprehension: split complementary colors use three colors, analogous colors are any three colors next to each other on the wheel for example, orange, yellow-orange, and yellow or triadic colors are any three colors that are equally apart on the color wheel. Plus, does black and white really exist?

Just like our emotions, colour is a big part of our social, emotional and physical 'make up'. How colours harmonise or even create an aura around us.

Just like our investment in our physical and mental health, maybe understanding how colour can compliment that, is worth knowing. Surrounding ourselves with the right colours, evoking the best emotional response in a busy and consuming world and being able to have our 'safe space'.

What is the best thing about having 'your' colour? It is that you can surround yourself with it! The tones, hues and depth of 'your colour' can enrich your life. Just look at my garden....my 'safe space' with a colour I love.

Join Enrique David Torres Tarrasa and myself for an exploration of colour and emotion in our next coaching session using the coaching tools from Points Of You (R). We will be inviting you to connect your deepest thoughts and emotions with colours, tones and hues.
